Making Connections: National Digital Trails

A major component of the Department of Interior’s vision is to increase access to our nation’s public lands. Since January 2019, the US Geological Survey has been advancing this vision with the National Digital Trails project. This presentation focuses on two project goals. First, it provides the current status of the Trail Routing Analysis and Information Linkage System (TRAILS), a web-based geospatial analysis tool that assists land managers in identifying and prioritizing candidate routes to connect existing trails and trail networks. Second, the presentation will cover the creation of a robust nationwide geospatial trails dataset. USGS dataset integrates trails from key federal agencies and state organizations. Besides highlighting the accomplishments, the presentation will discuss future steps for the project and opportunities to get involved.
