Like many other states, Arkansas is now on the path to Next Generation 9-1-1. It is not a perfect one or a pathway of predictable ease, but the objective is clear: support the transition of analog 9-1-1 service into a digital, IP-based environment by building and/or improving high quality GIS data layers required by the NENA NG9-1-1 GIS Data Model. In particular, the focus is on the Arkansas GIS Office work on PSAP and Emergency Services Zone boundaries. Through this presentation, learn how they got here, where they are, what challenges they have faced, and where they are going by using examples of interesting situations, war stories, anecdotes, possibly a colorful tale, and their vision for the future.
