States will play a critical role in the vision of a USGS 3D National Topography Model (3DNTM) by partnering to acquire data in support of the 3D Elevation Program (3DEP) and the emerging 3D Hydrography Program (3DHP). While 3DEP remains focused on providing the first-ever national baseline of consistent high-resolution topographic elevation data – both bare earth and 3D point clouds – collected in a timeframe of less than a decade, 3DHP will provide a modernized national hydrography dataset derived from and aligned with 3DEP data to support mapping, modeling, and data analysis from the local to national level.
