Bringing Clarity to the Redistricting Process

The workshop explores the need for openness, citizen engagement, and transparency in the redistricting process. It is obvious that GIS plays a role in redistricting, but historically the role GIS plays falls short. This workshop will focus on two case studies where civic leaders plan to extend the redistricting data and software tools to the public and discuss the civic health benefits they received. Forty-two states have incorporated some level of public participation in their redistricting data and software tools to the public and discuss the civic health benefits they received. Forty-two states have incorporated some level of public participation in their redistricting process; most have missed the point. The real driver in this movement is a rather simple desire to be involved.

Facilitated by Esri Global Manager for State Government Industry Solutions Richard Leadbeater; Featuring Florida Legislative Staff Member Jay Ferrin (invited) and Colorado Legislative Staff Member Jessika Shipley (invited)
