Work Zone Data Exchange Standard Webinar

During the September 2020 NSGIC Virtual Annual Conference, a Data Sharing for Wayfinding event was held with leaders from the wayfinding industry and state Geographic Information Officers/statewide coordinators to discuss and search for ways to better facilitate data sharing and updating. Understanding how significantly automatic wayfinding has changed traffic safety, we explored how to ensure the best and most authoritative data is used as widely as possible to improve both mobility and traffic safety across the country.

This follow-up webinar will provide a deep dive into the Work Zone Data Exchange (WZDx) specification. Specialists from the Work Zone Data Working Group will cover the following topics during the presentation:

  • What WZDx is, and why it’s important;
  • A walkthrough of how the WZDx specification is structured, using an example work zone;
  • How one early adopter, MassDOT, implemented WZDx; and
  • How WZDx could be extended to include additional data sources using bridge clearance data as an example

The breadth of the Work Zone Data Exchange (WZDx) specification’s use, as well as the possibility of extensions to it is intriguing.
